Elisa Giardina Papa all'ICA di Londra

Elisa Giardina Papa's solo exhibition She Flickered In and Out of History opens this Thursday, July 16, at ICA London.

For her solo exhibition at the ICA, Giardina Papa presents a mixed-media installation that brings together her video She Flickered In and Out of History, as well as new works ranging from sculpture, photography, and sound.

She Flickered In and Out of History explores the entangled geological, mythological, and political temporalities of the Mediterranean, recounting the tale of an island that emerged from and disappeared back into the sea. In 1831, a submarine volcanic eruption gave rise to a new island between Tunisia and Sicily, igniting a violent sovereignty dispute among European powers. Just five months later, the island vanished beneath the surface. Moving between historical records and speculative narration, the work reflects on the revelatory potential of an island that refused to be annexed.

An artist talk between Elisa Giardina Papa and Erika Balsom will take place on Saturday, July 18, at 2 pm
